Description:
The scope of work includes but is not limited to: Modernizations/re-configuration to the existing, approximately 66,506 sf, main building and 11,036 sf of new additions.
Key Peninsula Middle School is an existing 6th thru 8th grade middle school that will undergo a modernization, re-configuration and addition(s) to update the facility originally built in the early 1980’s. The existing school is a 1-story, 57,243 square foot tilt-up concrete building with a 9,263 square foot cast-in-place concrete gymnasium for a total existing building square footage of 66,506 square feet. The 11,036 GSF of new building additions include an administration area with a new exterior columned entry pavilion and canopy, a classroom addition, and a gymnasium addition. The areas of significant interior alteration include re-working of the existing administration area into new classrooms, a staff/work room and 2 new single-use restrooms. Upgrades will take place in the Band/Music room, Choir and Stage/Platform in the Commons, Kitchen, and the Science classrooms. All spaces will receive new suspended grids and acoustic tile ceilings. Remaining existing spaces will receive significant finish upgrades, new fixtures, and finishes in the existing restrooms. In addition to the expanded square footage, the gym will receive a new exterior canopy. Other existing exterior walls will receive new accent siding at key locations and new paint at concrete walls. The entire building will receive a new roof and metal parapet coping caps throughout. Proposed site work includes revisions and upgrades to the exterior entry paving approaches, and new plantings/landscaping in the area directly adjacent to the primary and secondary building entries. Existing earth berms at building exteriors will be removed to allow re-grading, and to allow joint system repairs at the existing concrete tilt-up panels. Additional site scope includes re-configuring existing drive-lane and sidewalks at the front of the building. Also, widening of the existing one-way drive lane in the back of the building to provide a widened fire access route. Upgrades to the building water design system include: construction of a new pumphouse building to house the fire and irrigation pump and an above-ground concrete cast-in-place storage tank for fire and irrigation. Upgrades include a new well supply line requiring new paving along the one-way drive in back of the building.
